Tortoise Rehoming Centres

Enclosed is a list of some of the tortoise rehoming centres around the country, there will be one near you, so if your area is not mentioned check on the web or contact your local RSPCA / SSPCA and they will be able to point you in the right direction.

If you are a tortoise rescue group and want your name adding to this list let us know agtuk@mail.com

You will need to either have a home check or send them pictures of the tortoises set up, before you can adopt an animal. The rehoming coordinators will be willing to offer you advice about your set up, so that everything is in place for when your 'shell baby' arrives. And they will be able to give you ongoing advice. They are there to help and make the process go as  smoothly and sucessfully as possible. Don't forget, they want your application to be as sucessful as you do, that way it frees up space for other tortoises who need their help but they will want to be sure they are putting an animal into the right situation, so do your research on the breed of tortoise that you are looking for, before you apply to them.

You will need to be willing to follow modern husbandry techniques, which basically means you agree to provide them with extra heat and appropriate lights and not just leave the tortoise out in the garden letting it fend for itself, and that includes supervised hibernation.
